5.0 out of 5 stars UPDATE 2 Years Later! With a little attention to detail, it's a wonderful machine

After scouring tons of reviews, I was hesitant on purchasing this cleaner, however, I thought I was aware enough to know what to look out for. First off, it's true that you must have no gaps between the connecting pieces for your cleaner to work properly. What other reviewers have said about the screws being a bit to short is true and shame on Bissell for not correcting this. I found that if I tightened the screws once before use and then 2-3 times during that first use and after I was done, the machine has held together beautifully. I now give it a quick tighten after every use and I've had no issues with it coming apart or any gaps. In regards to water spewing out of the vents: the instructions state to hold the trigger down while you make a forward pass and continue holding down while you make a backward pass and then release the trigger and make the same forward and backward pass for retraction. I found that doing it this way meant that the solution in the bottle emptied at just the same time that the extraction tank was at the fill line. I've never had an issue with water spewing out of the vents following these exact instructions with the exception of the one time that I did not give a quick rinse to remove suds in the extraction tank. The suds began to build up and exceeded the fill line. Now I do a quick rinse and no problem. Also, I always clean this machine after every use to ensure that it doesn't get clogged. For those reviewers who stated it left clumps of pet hair, that's an issue with your vacuum (needing to be cleaned or not vacuuming enough before you shampoo) not the Bissell RC. You do have to empty the extraction tank and fill the solution bottle more frequently, but you're purchasing a small machine so don't expect that it will hold the level of a large machine. What I do love, is that the extraction power is that of a large machine. I truly do love this machine after making sure I addressed all of the issues other reviewers noted (thank you!!!) and it's perfect for my apartment which is 1092 sq ft with rental carpet and two dogs (1 small, 1 large) but it's not the machine I would have chosen if I had a large home and a high grade, expensive carpet. It takes up no more room to store than my Shark vacuum cleaner. My criteria for choosing a cleaner was, in order of importance, extraction power, ease of use, lightweight, easily stored. This machine met all of the criteria and I couldn't be happier - especially at the price point. Just to be clear - I didn't receive any products or compensation for this review, I never take those types of reviews into consideration and rely heavily on reviews from people that aren't compensated for their information. I really wish Amazon would get rid of those! UPDATE: I originally purchased this Dec 27, 2016 and it's now just 8 days shy of 2 years that I've had this machine. I love it even more now than when I first bought it. After about the third use and tightening the screws each time, I have not had to tighten them since. I have two dogs and also do a ton of pet sitting so it's been tested and retested on hundreds of occasions from a really sick dog to a mildly sick dog to a food stain and it never disappoints. It's super light weight so I can easily throw it into my Kia Soul to take on pet sitting jobs and it also fits easily in the tiny front coat closet in my apartment. I also use it for a monthly cleaning of the carpet all over my apartment (984 sq ft). While I wouldn't suggest it for a large home and high pile carpet, it's a dream for what I need it for and has held up unbelievably well for how much I put it through.

Got this carpet cleaner and it works great, it is basically a newer model of the older Bissell cleaner that I had that broke (lent it to a relative who rammed it into the wall while cleaning). The only draw back on this model compared to my old one is that the handle on this one is retractable for easy storage but I discovered that the lock that keeps the handle up is not the greatest and while using the machine will slowly turn towards the unlock position which will start making the trigger start "misfiring" so it just gives a loud clunk and not dispense water so you have to twist it back to the lock position. Not that great of a deal but it is an annoyance and when you are cleaning the rug in a large room and have to repeatedly lock the handle it gets to be frustrating. If I had a choice I would prefer not having the retractable handle and just leave it in the fully deployed length like my older Bissell.
2.0 out of 5 stars was great- while it worked.

worked great, exactly 8 times, after which, it will turn on, but not dispense any fluid... soooo... i guess if you don't mind pouring cleaning fluid on your floor and then running the cleaner over it, it's totally fine. unfortunately, it was much too late to return it, or use the warranty, so i just have an $80 brick in my hall corner now. no effort to repair it has been successful, and there is no discernible jam or blockage- it just won't work anymore.
2.0 out of 5 stars Great machine but it was broken (warehouse deal)

Recently I've begun purchasing warehouse deals because I could stand to save some money. But this one came with a broken connector to the reservoir. I unpacked and assembled it, but the little connector was lopsided and try as hard as I might, I could not get it to stop leaking fluid all over the machine and floor. It quickly depleted 3/4 of the solution in such a manner on my first attempt to connect it. I didn't even plug it in yet. I quickly removed that part (the reservoir) and tried the vacuum suction since there was such a huge amount of water on my floors. The vaccuum suction seems to work normally. I am very pleased with that aspect, but I hate that I had to experience a broken connector. I have actually had a similar device a few years ago and loved it. But this one may just be a fluke. I cannot return it and I will be trying to contact the seller/amazon for a replacement part. If they can do that this machine seems to work otherwise (and I did try tossing the water "gently" from the reservoir (capless now), however that spills way too much and it isnt in a targeted manner. So I get uneven cleaning results, or must douse the entire area overly, which may lead to mildewed carpet. If I can get a replacement this product will receive 5 stars (providing the spray nozzle works like my former one did, which is "works" I don't need anything more special than a steady spray on the area in front of the suction). So far this has not worked, the cap from the reservoir arrived broken, and the sprayer I did not test since I did not want to lose any more water on the carpet! Update 8/15/2013: Amazon Customer Service contacted and they will replace the cap or refund item. Since I used it, I went ahead and there is one at a thrift shop I'm planning to pick up with the refund. Sincerely hope this is just a fluke on mine, it is kind of weird, the little top broke off (part with X) at one end and a screen on the other. Thank you Amazon, I will mark up this device when I get the refund, and buy my replacement part, and try the machine.
